Out with the old......

...and in with the new!

2011 has been a busy and eventful year for us at WCSUK.

This time last year, we didn't exist! We came into being in April and things have snowballed since then!

The Facebook page; the twitter page; the website - they are all being seen and followed and we are reaching out to women with womb cancer who want support!

We have a lot of things planned for 2012 - but for now we'd just like to wish everyone a peaceful and happy new year.

Always remember that no-one fights alone! xx

Have a peachy xmas with us!

December is upon on and it will soon be xmas. Before you rush off to the shops to buy some cards and presents please take a look at some of the items we have to offer that will help raise funds for womb cancer research.

Debra's very talented daughter, Annette had designed some lovely cards for us, all in peach with some lovely quirky touches. They can be found here
http://www.redbubble.com/people/dparry/collections/108202-christmas-cards?product_type=greeting-card so please do go and have a look at them. They would make a great talking point and give you the chance to explain all about our awareness campaign!

We have re-opened the fundraising page over on Facebook and I have added some new handmade items. The auction we held during September for the awareness month was a huge succes and raised over £300 so I am hoping that we can generate some more funds in the run up to xmas.

All the items come wrapped in tissue paper and in organza pouches and are ideal as stocking fillers. Again, please pop over and have a look and share the link with as many people as possible.

A quick update on our petition calling for a dedicated national womb cancer charity https://www.petitionbuzz.com/petitions/wombcancercharity the number of signatures now stands at 632! Again, please share the link with as many people as possible!

Remember our website can be found here
http://www.wix.com/wombcancersupportuk/home so if you know anyone who may benefit from some mutual support then please let them know about us!

We are already making plans for next years awareness campaign in September. We need to raise awareness of womb cancer and bring a halt to the increasing number of women that are getting this dreadful disease. Only by talking about it and making women aware of the symptons can be hope to one day see an end to womb cancer.

Until next time xx

Things are still peachy!

Well, September's womb cancer awareness month has been and gone and as far as we are concerned, it was a great success!
We ran a virtual campaign on Facebook and got loads of peach ribbons turning up as profile pictures; we held an online auction of handmade goodies that raised over £380 which has been added to the justgiving page, where the total now stands at £1,149.75.
If you'd like to donate to help fund womb cancer research then you can here - https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/Kaz-Molloy1

We had coffee mornings - virtual and real ones! And even a sponsored head signing by one very brave lady! All proceeds from those events were also added to the justgiving fund. We even got some newspaper coverage, only local but it did appear on their website aswell so maybe someone else saw it!!!

All in all, we are very optimistic about the future. Things are coming together well and there are some exciting things in the pipeline so watch this space!

Womb Cancer Awareness Month is here!

Womb cancer awareness month is underway and there are lots of peach ribbons appearing on Facebook as friends and family show their support.

This is the ribbon that most of us are using, which was designed for us by a lovely lady called Annette.

We have an event page on Facebook
https://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=235961659776088 and so far have 373 people joining us to raise awareness of womb cancer.

We also have our fundraising page https://www.facebook.com/pages/Womb-Cancer-Support-UK-Fundraising-page-for-Research/247340318617259 where we are selling items to raise funds for womb cancer research being carried out by Dr Patricia Ellis at Hammersmith Hospital. We have also just been asked if we would like to supply some items to a shop in Whitley Bay for a week or so, which is wonderful.

Check out their Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/RosewillCottage and if you are in the area then pop in and say hello!

We have also decided to start a petition calling for a womb cancer charity. Please pop over and add your name to the petition and share the link with as many people as possible.

Time to raise awareness

Well, not long now till September arrives! For most people, thats when the kids go back to school and the weather turns cooler.
For us at Womb Cancer Support UK, September means one thing - going Peach!!!
September is womb cancer awareness month and we intend do do as much as we can to raise people's awareness of womb cancer and highlight the facts and figures surrounding it.
Did you know that over 7,000 women are diagnosed with womb cancer every year? The ages that women are being diagnosed is falling aswell; it used to be a post menopausal cancer but more and more pre menopausal women are now being diagnosed.
During September, and beyond, we want to raise as much awareness about womb cancer as possible and we want you to help us.
If you read our blog; follow us on twitter or the Facebook page then please share the links. Talk about womb cancer with your female friends.
If you are a womb cancer survivor, then please consider sharing your story. You can do this by contacting your local paper or even one of the many womens magazines who are always looking for "real life" stories for their publications! Above all, we need to make women aware of the symptoms of womb cancer and make them realise that, if diagnosed and treated early then the outlook is very good!

Please join us on the Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/?ref=home#!/pages/Womb-Cancer-Support-UK/122733007804817 and help spread some peachy awareness! xxx

September Peach!

Most cancers have "awareness" months where high profile campaigns help to raise funds for research or just general awareness of the particular cancer. Womb cancer however, doesn't seem to have its own month here in the UK; over in the US its generally in September so we at Womb Cancer Support UK have decided to follow suit and declare September "Womb Cancer Awareness month"!

We are planning alsorts of things - from an auction of handmade items and original artwork to handing out leaflets at various locations around the country.

We are pleased to see the The Eve Appeal have designated September as
"Gynaecology Awareness Month" and will be raising awareness of all gynaecological cancers! http://www.eveappeal.org.uk

We don't want to tread on anyones toes, but we want to make sure that the womb cancer voice is heard loud and clear.
You can help us by spreading the word! You can do this in so many ways!

Follow us on our blog here!
Follow us on twitter - https://twitter.com/#!/WombCancerUK
Tell everyone about our new website - http://www.wix.com/wombcancersupportuk/home

We are determined to reach the women who want and need support but we need you to help us do that! Please share links as often as possible!

We now have a lovely website  http://wombcancersupportuk.weebly.com/ so please come on over and have a look. But more importantly, please share the link with as many people as possible so that we can reach the women who need and want support.

The website is designed to lead women through to out other social networking sites - the Facebook page
https://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/pages/Womb-Cancer-Support-UK/122733007804817 and the twitter
https://twitter.com/#!/WombCancerUK

I so wish that something like this had been around when I needed and wanted some support 18 months ago. But its here now - so make sure that you let everyone know - NO-ONE FIGHTS ALONE!

Blog post updated. 22.09.16

Wednesday 27 July 2011

We're here for you!

One thing that has really amazed me since I set up the support page https://www.facebook.com/pages/Womb-Cancer-Support-UK/122733007804817 is just how willing the women are to open up and share their experiences with each other. Because a lot of the information being shared was of a personal and delicate nature, we also set up a closed group on FB so that the posts didn't show up in everyone's profiles!!! This way, everyone can talk freely and openly about the more intimate issues surrounding hysterectomies; treatment and emotional issues.

Its become very clear that this kind of support group has been needed for some time, as to my knowledge we are the only womb specific support group in the UK.

We have recently been made aware by one of our members, Katherine, of a research project being carried out by Dr Patricia Ellis at Hammersmith Hospital into womb cancer in the under 40's. You can find out more info about the research here https://www.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=145577162187068

Because funding for projects is often difficult to come by, Debra set up a justgving page to collect donations - http://www.justgiving.com/Debra-Parry0 and I have decided to put my jewellery making skills to good use and have set up a page on FB to sell items with the proceeds going to the research project aswell.

If you fancy doing a spot of early Christmas shopping then you can check out the goodies on offer here https://www.facebook.com/pages/Womb-Cancer-Support-UK-Fundraising-page-for-Research/247340318617259

We've also got something really exciting to tell you about - but I'm going to save that for my next post! So make sure that you spread the word about us, and remember "NO-ONE FIGHTS ALONE".

No-one fights alone!

When I was diagnosed with womb cancer in late Dec 2009 I was in complete shock. The diagnosis came out of the blue, and I was immediately told that a hysterectomy was scheduled for me on 24th January. As you can imagine, it was a bleak Xmas and New Year in our house that year.
I spent most of the holidays searching the internet for information and found a few good sites like Cancer Research UK and Macmillan but what I really wanted was support from other women that had gone through what I was going through and I couldn't seem to find it!

I had my hysterectomy and that was then followed by chemotherapy and radiotherapy. My treatment finally ended on 12th July 2010.

What then! Try and get back to normal! But what is normal when you've had cancer? Things can never go back to the way they were before I got that phone call.

So after a few months of recuperation, I started to think back to how it had been at the very beginning and remembered how scared and alone I felt. I was sure that there must be other women out there who felt the same so I decided to start an online support group on Facebook.
https://www.facebook.com/WombCancerSupportUK?fref=ts

I was right; there were other women out there who felt the way I did! What was even more wonderful was that there were women out there who had gone through it all and were prepared to offer help and advice to those just starting on this long journey! I asked one of them, Debra, to help out as admin on the main FB page, and this was soon joined by a closed chat group where the women could talk in complete privacy about things.

We now have over 870 women on the main support page and there are 117 in the chat group.

In an effort to reach out to other women with womb cancer who want support we are on twitter https://twitter.com/#!/WombCancerUK and I shall also be using this blog as well as the main FB page to share links, advice, latest research and other interesting bits of info about womb cancer.

If you know of anyone who needs some support, then please share any of the links above.

Much love, Kaz xx
